Members of YDM were pleased to attend the Young Democrats of America (YDA) National Convention and are incredibly proud of Shawn Hartman - one of the great leaders in YDM - who served as Convention Director for this year's event and did an outstanding job!

YDM also wishes to congratulate YDA's re-elected president, Rod Snyder, and the entire YDA Board, which you can find listed below.

YDA President Rod Snyder and the newly elected board currently have dozens of appointed positions to fill and are accepting applications for those positions through August 19. Please see Rod's message to YDA members below, and follow the links to learn more and apply!

Just a few days ago, YDA’s National Convention came to a close in Louisville, Kentucky.  It was a tremendous success due to the hard work of Convention Director Shawn Hartman and our host chapter, the Kentucky Young Democrats.  YDA officially launched our 2011 – 2012 cycle by holding more than 100 workshops and trainings to prepare for the upcoming elections.

On Saturday, I was honored to be reelected president of YDA and look forward to leading this organization for the next two years.  I am surrounded by an incredible team of national officers, some who are continuing their service and some who are new to the board.  You can read their bios on the YDA website:

  • Colmon Elridge (KY) – Executive Vice President
  • Stephanie Hausner (NY) – National Committeewoman
  • Francisco Domenech (PR) – National Committeeman
  • Kristin Aschenbrenner (SD) – Vice President
  • Atima Omara Alwala (VA) – Vice President
  • Mike Corbett (NY) – Vice President
  • Emily Robinson (IL) – Secretary
  • Jonathan Padilla (CA) – Treasurer

On behalf of the entire YDA Board, I want to thank you for your continued membership and commitment to the Young Democrats.  Every two years, we have the privilege of appointing dozens of members to key leadership positions within the national organization who will help us create a vision for YDA, as well as assist with daily operations.  The appointment process begins today, and I hope you will consider applying for a position.

Apply for a YDA Presidential Appointment before August 19

The nine national officers cannot accomplish our goals for YDA without a larger team of dedicated volunteers, and I hope you will consider joining this effort.  Over the next few weeks, the YDA Board will be selecting applicants who have a track record of past success at the local, state or national level and who demonstrate the importance of creativity and accountability.

Please review the application carefully and take notice that there are several changes from 2009.  I have asked Adam Weiss to assist with the appointment process and answer any questions you might have about the application or the various positions and their expectations.  You can contact Adam directly at appointments@yda.org.

YDA will continue to work to elect Democrats, fight for progressive policies, and train the next generation of Democratic Party leaders.  But we can’t accomplish these goals without your help.  A strong organization requires a diverse, innovative leadership team.

Please encourage friends and colleagues to apply for a YDA Presidential Appointment by August 19

I’ve been involved with YDA for more than six years, but I’ve never been more energized and hopeful than at this moment.  I’m looking forward to working with all of you to strengthen the progressive youth movement across the country.  Let’s get to work!

Sincerely,

Rod Snyder
President
